    How we calculate this

    Every letter has a number. Pythagorean numerology assigns 1 to A, J and S. 2 to B, K and T. 3 to C, L and U. 4 to D, M and V. 5 to E, N and W. 6 to F, O and X. 7 to G, P and Y. 8 to H, Q and Z. 9 to I and R. Accents are stripped before the letters are read, so José is scored as Jose and García as Garcia. Spaces, hyphens and apostrophes are ignored entirely, which means Mary-Anne O’Connor is read as MARYANNEOCONNOR.

Three numbers come from each name. Expression uses every letter of the full name. Soul Urge uses the vowels only, meaning A, E, I, O and U. Y is treated as a consonant here rather than a sometimes-vowel, because a fixed rule keeps the arithmetic checkable and stops the same name producing two different answers. Personality uses the consonants that are left over. Soul Urge and Personality always add back up to Expression before reduction, which is a useful way to check the working by hand.

Two modes, two weightings. Names only compares Expression at 45 per cent, Soul Urge at 35 per cent and Personality at 20 per cent. Names plus birth dates re-weights to Life Path at 40 per cent, Expression at 25, Soul Urge at 20 and the Birthday number at 15. Life Path uses the component method, reducing the month, the day and the year separately before adding them together, which protects a master number hiding inside one part of the date. The Birthday number is simply the day of the month, reduced.

Master numbers stay whole. 11, 22 and 33 are never reduced further, at any stage, in either mode. For the compatibility lookup they are read at their root, so 11 is checked as a 2, 22 as a 4 and 33 as a 6, but the master status is still reported back to you rather than quietly dropped.

Nothing here is random. Each pair of numbers is scored against a fixed compatibility matrix, and that matrix never changes. The position inside each band is derived from the two numbers themselves, which is why scores look specific rather than blocky, and why the same two people always get the same result.

For reflection and insight only, not professional advice.

A love calculator turns two names, and sometimes two birth dates, into a single compatibility percentage. Type them in and most people brace for a random number dressed up as fate. Fair assumption too. Refresh the page on most of these tools and the score jumps around like it's got a mind of its own.

This one runs on real math instead. Pythagorean numerology, letter by letter, every addition shown right on the screen the moment you hit calculate. Nothing here comes from a dice roll, and nothing you type gets saved anywhere.

Below, we walk through the arithmetic, break down what each percentage band actually means, explain why the same two names can score 91 here and 34 somewhere else, and cover what relationship research says predicts a lasting match. Five minutes with a pen and paper is enough to check the working by hand. Read through before treating any single score as a verdict on the relationship.

    First steps

How to Use This Love Calculator

Four steps. Ten seconds, maybe less if you're a fast typer. Every addition behind your final percentage prints straight to the screen once the result opens, so you're never just taking our word for it. No account, no email, nothing leaves your browser.

    1

    Choose your mode

Names only pulls three numbers straight from the letters. Add both birth dates and two more numbers join the mix, and the reading gets noticeably deeper.

    2

    Enter both full names

Letters drive everything here, so spelling matters more than people expect. Sara and Sarah land on different totals. Stay consistent between runs.

    3

    Add both birth dates

Full mode reduces the month, the day and the year separately before adding them back together. That component method is what pulls the Life Path number into the score.

    4

    Open the working panel

Hit Calculate compatibility, then open the working panel underneath. Every letter value, every reduction and every weighting is right there to trace.

    The basics

    What Is a Love Calculator?

A love calculator takes two identities and turns them into a single compatibility score. The earliest versions, popular back in the late 1990s, hashed the two names together and spat out a pseudo-random figure. That approach never really went away, which explains why the same couple can score 34 per cent on one site and 91 on the next.

A numerology-based love compatibility test swaps the hash for a fixed letter chart instead. Every letter carries a number. Those numbers reduce down to a core value, and the two core values get matched against a published table. The result stays interpretive, not measured, but at least it repeats.

    Origin

Pythagorean values assigned to English letters, formalised by L. Dow Balliett back around 1908.

    Input

Two names, plus two birth dates if you switch to full mode. Nothing else gets collected, and nothing gets kept.

    Output

A percentage somewhere between 45 and 96, with every step of the working laid out in full.

    The formula

How the Love Calculator Works (Formula Explained)

Each letter maps to a single digit, somewhere between 1 and 9. Add the digits up, keep reducing until one digit is left, and stop early if you land on 11, 22 or 33, since those stay whole. Vowels alone give you the Soul Urge. Consonants alone give you the Personality. The full name, every letter, gives you the Expression.

Both people go through the same reduction, and each matching pair of numbers gets scored against a fixed compatibility table. Full mode brings in life path number compatibility too, pulled from the birth date rather than the letters, and that's why it carries the heaviest single weight in the whole formula. That same Life Path figure, isolated rather than paired against someone else's, is what the life path number calculator hands back in a few seconds flat.

    Names onlyExpression 45% + Soul Urge 35% + Personality 20%

    Names plus datesLife Path 40% + Expression 25% + Soul Urge 20% + Birthday 15%

Here is the full chart, so none of this has to be taken on trust. Nine values, twenty six letters, no exceptions.

    Pythagorean letter values
    ValueLetters
    1A, J, S
    2B, K, T

    5E, N, W
    6F, O, X
    7G, P, Y
    8H, Q, Z
    9I, R

Y sits with the consonants in that chart, which is a choice worth flagging because plenty of numerologists let it switch sides depending on the word. Treating it as a sometimes-vowel means the same name can return two different Soul Urge numbers depending on who is reading it. A fixed rule is less elegant and a lot more checkable, so that is what runs here.

The letter chart itself isn't proprietary. It's standard across most published guides to name numerology, so nothing about the raw values is unique to this tool. What is unique here is the weighting and the band table. Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 never get reduced further, not at any stage, and they stay whole everywhere they show up in the working.

    What the score means

    Love Percentage Meaning Chart

A percentage here measures how little translation two charts need. It says nothing about how much affection actually exists between two people. High scores describe ease. Low scores describe visible difference, plain and simple. Neither one touches effort, and effort is the variable that moves a relationship forward.

    What each band means
    RangeBandWhat it describes
88 to 96Rare AlignmentMost core numbers agree. Very little gets explained twice.
76 to 87Strong CurrentMain layers pull the same way. Gaps stay small and discussable.
66 to 75Steady GroundA working mix of agreement and difference. Nothing runs on autopilot.
56 to 65Honest WorkReal overlap beside real difference, usually in plain sight.
45 to 55Growth PairingDifferences are visible rather than buried, so they get named early.
Below 45Not producedA hard floor. No combination of inputs returns less than 45, and none returns more than 96 either.

chemistry and compatibility are two separate things, and this chart only ever speaks to the second one. Two people can score a 91 and still find each other exhausting by week three. A 53, meanwhile, can settle into something that lasts, once both people stop treating the difference as a flaw. The band name prints right beside every result too, so there's no guessing which category a score lands in.

    Love Calculator Examples

Six pairs, all run through names only mode, with the three sub-scores that built each total shown beside them. Emily Carter shows up twice on purpose, paired with two different partners. That's there to prove the arithmetic responds to the second name, not to random chance.

    Six pairs, names only mode

    Aisha Khan and Omar Farouk66739474%
    Emily Carter and James Bennett69546062%
    Emily Carter and Peter Kramer49546253%

Take row five and work it by hand. EMILYCARTER comes to 57, which reduces to 12, then to an Expression of 3. Its vowels total 20 and reduce to a Soul Urge of 2. Its consonants total 37, reducing to 10, then to a Personality of 1. Now JAMESBENNETT, which is more interesting: 38 reduces to 11 and stops there, because 11 is a master number. Its vowels give 16, reducing to 7. Its consonants land on 22, another master, so that stays whole as well. Those six numbers go through the compatibility table, come out at 69, 54 and 60, and the 45, 35, 20 weighting turns them into 61.95, which rounds to the 62 in the table above.

Type any row from that table into the tool above and the exact same figures come back. A 53 doesn't signal one sided love, and an 88 doesn't promise anything either. Both numbers just report how closely two sets of reduced values happen to sit next to each other. Every sub-score shows up in the working panel too, so you can check the math yourself.

    Love Calculation Methods Compared

Five different approaches here, and each one answers a slightly different question. Only two of them return the same answer twice.

Questionnaire matching scores actual behaviour instead of symbols, which makes it the most useful method of the five, provided people answer honestly. Numerology sits at the far opposite end. Fully repeatable, entirely symbolic, and mostly good as a way to open a conversation neither person would've started on their own.

A zodiac compatibility chart sorts couples by element instead of letters, fire against earth, air against water, and detailed guides on how zodiac elements affect compatibility cover that grouping in more depth than we will here.

Before settling on one read over the other, the zodiac sign calculator pulls both sun signs in a matter of seconds, which makes that second opinion easy enough to check.

    The mismatch

Why Your Love Score Differs on Other Websites

Run the same two names through four different sites and you'll probably get four different numbers back. Normal, and not a glitch. The tools aren't measuring the same thing, and a few of them aren't measuring anything at all. Before assuming a site is broken, check whether it actually publishes its method. A calculator that won't show its arithmetic is asking for trust it hasn't earned. Four causes explain nearly every mismatch you'll run into.

    Random generation

A lot of sites seed the score from the system clock or a random function, so hitting refresh produces a brand new figure every time.

    Different letter charts

Chaldean numerology hands out different values to the exact same letters, and skips the number 9 for letters entirely. That shift ripples through every total downstream.

    Attraction versus fit

Some of these scores actually rate initial pull instead of long-term fit, which blurs the difference between love and infatuation right into the final number.

    A different input entirely

Astrology tools read planetary placements instead of letters, the same placements the birth chart calculator maps out.

    No spin

Is the Love Calculator Accurate? Myths vs Facts

Accuracy is the wrong word for this. Numerology is symbolic interpretation, not measurement, and no arrangement of letters can quantify how two people handle each other under real strain. What this tool actually claims is narrower than that. The arithmetic is real. The method stays fixed. The working prints out so anyone can audit it. That distinction matters, because most claims made about these tools fall apart under about ten seconds of scrutiny. The five claims below show up constantly, in comment sections, in group chats, everywhere.

    Common claims examined
    MythFact
A high score means a happy relationshipIt means fewer differences need translating. Effort still decides the outcome.
A low score means you should walk awayVisible differences get discussed. Buried ones do not.
Every love calculator uses the same mathsMost use no maths. Hashed and random scores are the norm.
Numerology is scientifically validatedIt is not. Treat it as a structured prompt for conversation.
Changing your surname changes your fateIt changes your letters, so it changes the number. Nothing more.

The question of whether do opposites attract in relationships fits right into that same category, repeated constantly and tested almost never. The Gottman Institute published a genuinely useful breakdown of common relationship myths for anyone who wants actual research instead of folklore passed around at dinner parties.

    Beyond the score

    What Actually Predicts Real Compatibility

Relationship researchers keep circling back to the same short list of behaviours, and none of them show up in a name. The real indicators of a lasting match are observable, kind of boring honestly, and available to anyone patient enough to watch for a few months.

    • Conflict repair that happens in hours, not days
    • Matching expectations around money, time and family
    • Curiosity about the other person that doesn't fade after year one
    • Room for the other person to change their mind, even in public

    Responsiveness

Small bids for attention get answered right away instead of getting pushed off for later.

    Conflict style

A disagreement stays about the actual issue, not a jab at someone's character.

    Shared reality

Ask each person about the same argument later, and their versions roughly match up.

    Autonomy

Each person keeps friendships and interests that don't require the other one in the room.

    Reliability

Small promises get kept, and that's exactly what makes the big ones believable later.

    Expressed appreciation

Noticing gets said out loud instead of just assumed.

None of this requires a calculator. All of it takes real time to observe, which is why a percentage often feels more satisfying than it deserves. A score shows up instantly. Evidence never does. Love language compatibility belongs on this list too, and writing on compatibility according to psychology makes a nearly identical case.

    Worth a look

Researchers who study couples tend to split the question into dozens of smaller variables instead of one tidy score. Psychology Today catalogues two dozen separate dimensions of compatibility in long-term relationships, covering everything from sleep schedules and spending habits to conflict pace and social energy. Set it next to any single percentage, this one included, and the limits of a lone figure become obvious pretty fast.

    Behind the build

How We Built and Tested This Calculator

Every valid birth date from 1900 through today was run through both this calculator and the standalone life path tool, checking that a date returning a 7 in one place never comes back as an 8 in the other. Edge cases got tested on purpose too. An early build fell over on a name with no vowels in it at all, which is exactly how the redistribution rule ended up in the code. Those inputs now drop the affected layer and share its weight across whatever is left, instead of inventing a score out of nowhere. Every example published on this page came straight out of the live tool. None of it was written by hand.

    No randomness

No random function shows up anywhere in the code, not once. Identical inputs return identical output, every single time.

    Order independent

Swapping the two people around can't move the score at all. The pairing formula is built symmetric on purpose.

    Shared logic

That same reduction logic, digit by digit down to a single number, is what the angel number calculator runs against repeating sequences instead of letters.

    Quick answers

    Frequently Asked Questions

Ten questions people ask again and again, answered straight, no hedging.

Is a love calculator actually based on real science?

No, not in the peer-reviewed sense. Numerology is a symbolic system, not an empirical one, and there's no published research showing letter values predict relationship outcomes. The arithmetic itself is genuine and fully checkable. The meaning attached to each number, though, that part is interpretation. Use it to open a conversation, not to close one.

Why does my score stay exactly the same every time?

Because it comes from a fixed method run against fixed inputs, nothing more. There's no random function anywhere, no timestamp, no stored session. The same two names and dates return the same percentage on any device, in any browser, in any year you happen to check. Go ahead and refresh, it won't budge.

Can I use nicknames instead of full names?

You can, and the number will come out different. Traditional practice sticks to the name on the birth certificate, since those exact letters weren't chosen by the person carrying them. Running the everyday nickname as a second reading is worth doing too. Comparing both usually tells you more than either one alone.

What does a 50 per cent love score actually mean?

It puts the pair in the Growth Pairing band, where the differences sit right out in the open instead of hiding somewhere. That's not a warning sign. Pairs who can name their recurring disagreement tend to stop repeating it, which is why this band often produces relationships that last, not ones that fall apart.

Does the order of the two names change the result?

No, it can't. The pairing formula multiplies and adds the two numbers together, so it's symmetric by design. Type Alex in first or second, doesn't matter, you get an identical percentage, identical sub-scores, identical working underneath. That got checked across every number combination the tool is capable of producing.

Do I need a birth date to use the calculator?

No. Names only mode compares Expression, Soul Urge and Personality and hands you a complete reading on its own. Add both birth dates and Life Path plus Birthday numbers join in, shifting the weighting quite a bit. Only know one of the two birth dates? Stick with names only mode for both people instead.

Can two people with a low score have a strong relationship?

All the time, actually. The percentage describes how much translating two charts need, nothing about how committed two people are to each other. Some of the clearest signs you are falling in love show up in pairs whose numbers flat out disagree, because difference forces a kind of attention that easy similarity never demands.

How does this differ from an astrology compatibility reading?

Completely different input, for one thing. Numerology reads letters and calendar dates. Astrology reads planetary positions instead, and that needs a birth time and place for anything genuinely detailed. When the two systems agree, that's coincidence, not design, so treat any disagreement between them as normal rather than a mistake somewhere.

Does the calculator store my names or birth dates?

Nothing gets stored, full stop. The tool runs with no cookies, no local storage, no network requests of any kind. Everything calculates right inside your browser and disappears the second you close the tab. Nobody, us included, ever receives or sees the names and dates you type in.

What should I do with a result I dislike?

Open the working panel first and check the arithmetic, since one misspelled name shifts every number that follows it. If the math checks out fine, read the friction section instead of staring at the percentage. That suggested conversation is really the only part of this whole output built to be acted on.

    Wrapping up

    Final Thoughts

    Put simply

A love calculator is a mirror with some arithmetic behind it, not an oracle handing down a verdict. The real value sits in what the number pushes you to actually talk about, especially the paragraph you'd rather scroll straight past. Run the tool. Read the friction section slowly and properly, not skimmed. Then set the percentage aside and watch how the two of you handle an ordinary disagreement on a completely ordinary Tuesday. That evidence beats every score on this page, and it's the only evidence that keeps updating long after you've closed the tab.
